Things You Should Know

You're looking at FlightSafety Academy because you want a career as a professional pilot. As it is with all careers, there are some things you should know before you start your training. To help you decide the direction and future path, take some time to read over these helpful steps.

Are you interested in a career with the airlines, or with a corporate or fractional operator? Begin researching the requirements of the companies you would like to work for and prepare yourself accordingly. Some operators may require applicants to have a bachelor’s degree. In addition, you’ll need to obtain and maintain an FAA Class I Medical throughout your aviation career. For information on medical requirements and AME locations, visit www.cami.jccbi.gov.

Once you’ve set your goals, the next step is to begin your flight training. Necessary certificates and ratings include the Commercial, Instrument, Multi-Engine (CIME) Certificate. FlightSafety Academy’s Professional Pilot Program can take you from zero hours through the CIME in as little as 34 weeks. After earning your CIME, you’ll need to gain experience and build hours toward the minimum requirements established by the various airlines and corporate operators. The traditional method for building hours is flight instructing, for which you’ll need to earn Flight Instructor Certification.

When you reach the minimum time requirements, you’ll be ready to apply for a job as a professional pilot. Our Career Development Department can help you develop a résumé and prepare for interviews. As part of the world’s largest aviation training company, FlightSafety Academy has strong connections in the industry. Our staff can help you navigate the world of corporate and commercial aviation, so you’ll be better prepared to land a job.
