Medical Certification For Private Flight TrainingOne of the most important parts of completing airplane flight training is getting medical certification from an aviation medical examiner. There are different types of aviation training for private, commercial and air carrier pilots, and they all require different types of medical certification. The flight training for private pilots requires the least involved type of medical examination, which grants a third class medical certificate. Third class medical certification is required for a private pilot license, so some might say it is the most important part of airplane flight training. To qualify for a third class medical certificate, pilots must have at least 20/40 near and distant vision. Unfortunately, people that need to wear glasses cannot complete aviation training for any type of certification. Pilots must also have full color vision, and be able to hear an average conversational voice in a quiet room with both ears at a distance of six feet with their back to the examiner. The flight training medical examiner will also do an ear, nose and throat test before licensing a pilot. Other medical requirements for airplane flight training include blood pressure under 155/95, a clear mental status and not being dependant on alcohol or any pharmaceutical substance in the past two years. For pilots under the age of 40, third class medical certificates expire on the last day of the month they were issued by the aviation training facility, three years from the date of issue. For pilots over the age of 40, they expire on the last day of the month they were issued by the flight training facility, two years from the date of issue.
