Facts About Helicopter Flight Training

Helicopter flight training, just like fixed-wing flight training, is rather expensive. Helicopter flight training is also more demanding in some ways than fixed-wing flight training. Many students must oftentimes relocate in order to be near their flight schools. During the flight training process, you'll likely be spending over a thousand dollars each week just on your flight training. This is a serious investment, so be sure you're dedicated to learning how to fly helicopters before you begin.

If you're not sure about making this decision, take an introductory flight lesson. These introductory lessons are reasonably priced, and they'll help you to gain a more intimate understanding of the helicopter training experience. You should also, make sure you scrutinize a facility before deciding to enroll in their helicopter flight training program. One major point to keep in mind is whether or not your helicopter school is FAA certified or not. A certification from the FAA will guarantee a higher level of instruction and fewer hours required in order to achieve your helicopter pilot's certificate.

The helicopter flight certification process is identical to that of a fixed wing flight certification process. You must be able to pass a written exam, an oral exam, and of course a flight test. Also, you must be at least 17 years old. It's not necessary that you've ever flown a plane before, though some pilots say learning in a fixed wing aircraft was helpful because they learn about the aviation environment prior to beginning their helicopter flight training. At most flight schools it takes about nine months to complete your helicopter flight training as a full-time student, and the time for completion as a part-time student depends on how much time you can spend flying and studying.

Learning to fly a helicopter can be quite exciting. The differences between a helicopter and a fixed wing aircraft can make for an amazing flying experience for someone who has never flown a helicopter.
