Different Flight Schools For Different Goals

Anyone who wants to get their pilot's certificate must go to flight school to get the training that they need. There are four steps to certification, all of which flight schools can help aviation students to prepare for. The first type of pilot school that a person goes to is ground school, which is followed by a written exam, and then an oral exam.

The last part of the process, the flight test, requires flight school more than any other. While people may be able to learn about aviation laws, flight terminology and the location of the instruments without going to flight schools, they can't train for the flight test without actual flight instructor training. An uncertified person simply cannot go up in the air alone. So, pilot school is obviously a necessity because of the accompanied flight instructor training, but choosing which type of pilot school to go to is another matter completely. The two types of flight schools are called Part 61 and Part 141 schools, which are differentiated by the FAA regulations under which they operate.

Part 141 flight schools require fewer hours for the pilot ratings, but they also require rigorous audits by the FAA, and their curriculum follows more rules and guidelines. Part 61 flight schools require more hours for pilot rating, but they are more flexible in their methods. Many people also choose another type of pilot school, which are the nationally accredited pilot schools. These are training institutions that operate more like four-year universities, because they are preparing pilots for future careers rather than hobbies or part-time occupations. Whatever objectives a pilot ahs, there is a flight school that will help them to get there.
